FAQs
Do I need to have my block-paved driveway re-sanded after pressure washing?
Re-sanding is crucial because the sand between the joints of the block pavers, as well as the sand on which they are laid, provides the foundation for your driveway or patio. We will always completely re-sand with top-quality kiln-dried sand after pressure-washing block paving.
Can my block-paved driveway be re-sanded immediately after pressure washing?
No, the whole block-paved area must be completely dry before being re-sanded for two reasons:
- It allows the sand to be effectively and thoroughly brushed into the joints without it sticking and creating voids. A totally dry area allows every possible grain of sand to be brushed into the joints, thereby maintaining the structural integrity of your driveway.
- Applying a sealer to sand on a wet surface can form unsightly white or ‘milky’ patches caused by water condensation collecting underneath the sealer
With this in mind, we always provide a second visit to sand (or sand and seal) your driveway after pressure washing.
I have my own Karcher pressure washer to clean my driveway, so why should I use your services?
Many people use their own pressure washers to clean their driveways and are satisfied with the results. However, achieving an optimal result requires considerable time, professional knowledge and understanding, and heavy-duty purpose-made equipment: all of which is at hand when you choose our services.
For example, we use rotary surface cleaners and a selection of variable pressure turbo lances, powered by a Honda GX390 13 horsepower pump which produces 250 bar. Our equipment is lightyears ahead of low-power, electrical domestic units, and enables us to complete jobs of all sizes with maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
Is it necessary to seal my driveway after cleaning?
While sealing isn’t a crucial requirement, applying a premium-grade sealer will provide maximum protection against wear, soiling, and weed regrowth. In addition to all this, it will fully showcase your newly cleaned and re-sanded driveway.
What are the benefits of sealing my driveway?
Using quality sealers manufactured by SmartSeal, our driveway treatments have a variety of benefits, including:
- Reduced block paver surface degradation
- Improved water and stain resistance
- Reduced growth and spread of moss and algae
- Improved structural integrity (solidified jointing sand creates strong bonds between block pavers and prevents weed growth)
Can you apply sealer in any weather conditions?
No – sealer must be applied when the weather is dry, and rain is not expected within eight hours of application. Furthermore, the temperature must be between 12 and 23 degrees centigrade. Therefore, when very hot days are forecast, we may need to arrive at your property very early!
When my neighbour had their driveway pressure-washed, they needed to clean their walls and windows which were left very dirty – will I be responsible for doing this?
Absolutely not! Our professional team will never leave your property in a dirty condition. Irrespective of whether we are cleaning your roof, gutters, fascias and soffits, walls, driveway, or patio, we will thoroughly clean any affected areas. For example, after pressure washing driveways, we always wash down adjacent walls and doors, and use professional pure water equipment on your windows to leave them squeaky clean and streak-free!
Why don’t you pressure wash roofs?
We never pressure wash roofs for three very important reasons:
- Pressure washing a roof requires the operative to walk on the roof tiles. This is likely to cause unnecessary damage to the tiles themselves and/or supporting structures.
- High-pressure water jets can crack and lift roof tiles and jointing mortar.
- It also unnecessarily saturates roofing tiles, thereby providing ideal conditions for moss and algae to grow.
As an alternative, we work from a mobile scaffolding tower, using soft-washing techniques and telescopic tile scrapers to safely and effectively clean your roof.
I’m not sure whether the inside of my gutters need clearing and/or cleaning – is there any way you could check?
Absolutely! Using our telescopic SkyCam Inspection Camera System, we will conduct a full video survey of your gutter troughs to check their condition. We can then share the footage with you, providing the evidence to make an informed decision as to whether it is necessary to carry out further work.
We will never carry out unnesseccary work. In doing so, we are able to develop a trusted relationship with all of our cutomers!
I would like my gutters clearing but I have a three-storey house. Are you able to do this?
Of course! We use professional SkyVac® suction equipment together with a SkyCam Inspection Camera System that can be safely operated from the ground to more than 10.5 metres high. This is usually the maximum gutter height for three-storey residential properties.
